Here are a few points they should be aware of to answer clients' questions more professionally and gain their trust.
1. If a client asks: "Why does my manicure chip off in just a few days?"
Answer: "Manicures need protection too! Avoid soaking them in water for long periods and don’t dig with your nails on hard surfaces to maintain their longevity. Also, everyone’s nails are different—some have thinner, softer nails, while others have oily or sweaty nails, and a faster metabolism can also affect how long the manicure lasts."
2. If a client says: "I feel pain when the light is on."
Answer: "The main ingredient in the gel polish is resin and a photosensitizer that reacts with the light, absorbing energy and quickly solidifying, which creates heat. If it feels too uncomfortable, you can take your hand out right after putting it in and then put it back in."
3. If a client asks: "Is it true that my hands will turn black after a manicure?"
Answer: "Some small shops use UV lamps, which can be too strong and cause discoloration. But we only use LED lights here, so you won’t have that issue. If you're still worried, we can provide you with gloves."
4. If a client asks: "Can I avoid cutting dead skin?"
Answer: "We cut dead skin for a more polished look, and it also helps the manicure last longer. If the cuticles aren’t properly managed, the edges and sides can lift more easily. Don’t worry, our techniques are solid, and all tools are sterilized, so it’s safe."
5. If a client asks: "Why do you always buff the nail surface before starting?"
Answer: "Buffing the surface removes the oil from the top layer and roughens it up, helping the polish adhere better and enhancing the longevity of your manicure."
6. If a client asks: "I see some people have green nails after a manicure?"
Answer: "That’s a sign of a Pseudomonas infection caused by poor technique or inadequate disinfection tools, or if water gets under the lifting nails and isn't addressed. Green nails can grow out and be trimmed off; it's usually not a serious issue."
7. If a client asks: "Do I need to remove my manicure?"
Answer: "Yes, it’s important to have a professional remove your manicure. If it starts to lift or water gets under it, it can lead to a Pseudomonas infection. Improper removal can damage your nails, causing them to peel, become soft, and affect their look and comfort."
These are the seven most common questions I've summarized. Answering them this way will help build customer rapport and trust. Hope this helps those just starting as nail technicians!
